On December 4th 2015, only six months after groundbreaking, Elementar celebrated the completion of the structural work with a topping-out ceremony. Around 130 invited guests, among them Jörg Muth, Mayor of Langenselbold, Construction Supervisor Jürgen Knop, Architect Bernd Winter and all construction workers joined the celebration at the construction site. For most of Elementar’s employees, this was the first occasion to have a look at their future workplace.
The event took place in the future production department of Elementar’s new headquarter – luckily the roof was already watertight by this time! After a welcoming speech by President Dr. Hans-Peter Sieper, Mayor Jörg Muth pointed out the good cooperation between Elementar and the city of Langenselbold. Subsequent to the speeches, all guests left the building in order to watch the decorated crown made of fir sprigs being lifted into the air by a crane and to hear the topping-out speech of a carpenter. During his speech, the carpenter emptied a glass of wine and then threw it on the bottom. The glass broke into pieces – a good sign representing good luck and no accidents during the further construction. This kind of ceremony has a long tradition and dates back to the 14th century.
The catering was provided by a food truck that was parked in the larger of the two inner courtyards. While enjoying very delicious burritos and (hot) drinks, time passed quickly. It was a successful event and a major milestone of Elementar’s building project.
